Oxxo: the Mexican retail chain opens one store per day in Brazil

Oxxo, the convenience store chain, has 325 stores in Brazil, where it began operations in 2020

The Oxxo retail chain, of Mexican origin, is opening one convenience store a day in Brazil, according to directors of Raízen, a Brazilian company that is a partner in the project.

Oxxo opened its first store in Brazil in December 2020 and already has 325 stores in the country, most of them in the state of Sao Paulo, according to data provided by Raízen.

The retail chain “continues to open one store per day and the goal is to continue at that pace,” according to Raízen’s Mobility Director, Teo Lacroze, at a media event held in Sao Paulo.

Oxxo’s sales volume has an “accelerated growth” of 44% per year in Brazil, according to the same source.
The Oxxo stores are being opened by Grupo Nós, a company jointly owned by Fomento Económico Mexicano (Femsa) and Raízen, a company owned by the oil company Shell and the sugar and ethanol producer Cosan.

In Peru, the chain landed in 2018 and, according to the specialized portal Peru Retail, it has 80 stores. Oxxo also operates in Colombia and Chile.
