Mercedes-Maybach launches its first plug-in hybrid model

Mercedes-Maybach introduces, for the first time, a plug-in hybrid version in its range, charging at the electrical outlet. The Mercedes Maybach S 580 e guarantees a range in electric mode of up to 100 km

The Mercedes Maybach brand has been one of the references in terms of luxury cars and status revealers since Wilhelm and Karl Maybach started manufacturing cars in 1921.

The founders’ goals of creating “the best of the best” continue to characterize the Mercedes Maybach “marriage” to date.

The brand now adds to the offer of the Mercedes Maybach S Class, a model launched on the market in 2021, a plug-in hybrid variant (the Mercedes Maybach S 580 e), being the first time in the history of this brand that this type of engine is present.

“With our first plug-in hybrid model, we are combining the signature Maybach luxury experience with emission-free urban driving in electric mode.

The Mercedes Maybach S 580 e represents a decisive step in transforming our historic brand into an electric future. We will present our all-electric model as early as 2023”, says Daniel Lescow, Director of Mercedes Maybach at Mercedes Benz Group AG.

The basis of the hybrid powertrain of this Mercedes Maybach S 580 e is an in-line six-cylinder engine from the current generation of gasoline engines from Mercedes Benz, with 270 kW/367 hp of power.

The combined power between the combustion engine and the electric motor is 375 kW/510 hp and the combined torque is 750 Nm. The electric motor’s maximum torque of 440 Nm is available from the very first rev, resulting in rapid acceleration.

The Mercedes Maybach S 580 e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

The autonomy in 100% electric mode that the manufacturer announces for this luxury vehicle is 100 km. The maximum speed in electric mode is 140 km/h. The model is equipped as standard with an 11 kW charger for three-phase charging from an AC power socket. A 60 kW DC charger is available as an option for quick DC charging.

Even when the battery is practically empty, the battery can be fully charged in about 30 minutes using the DC fast charger. The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e will be launched first in China and Thailand, followed by Europe.

The RRP for the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC (not a plug-in, please note) is €233,350.
